Same attire as Jazz classes.
Footwear:
For Performance - Bloch Spin II Nude turning shoes.
For Class - Jazz shoes are acceptable for lyrical, bare feet is acceptable for contemporary. Turn shoes are not super durable, and we want them to be clean for performance. So we do suggest using your jazz shoes for lyrical or barefeet for contemporary during class. Closer to performance time, you will need the turn shoes. -
Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT)
JUNIOR/INTERMEDIATE/SENIOR LEVELS:
• A fit/Swiss ball for the required size for your height (see below for sizing details)
• Small hand ball – OTP or Balanced Body Pink Ball is recommended, may also use a handball/racquetball. Approximately 8″ in circumference/2.5″ in diameter.
• Medium Fusion ball – known as a Soft Stability Ball or Pilates Soft Ball, must be 20-23 cm in diameter or have a circumference of approximately 54 cm (22″). Soft Toy Balls may be used.
• Resistance band – Medium strength, MUST be 9 feet in length and 6 inches wide across. Resistance bands will be required later in the season. Miss Christina is looking into an option to pass out to the class and will update the class when in the season this will be required.
• Pilates or Yoga mat
• Senior/Advanced Students ONLY – Later this season, you will need a Mini Resistance Loop Band, minimum Medium strength. Advanced students should use Advanced strength. Found at exercise shops or suppliers of Pilates equipment. Miss Christina will update the class when in the season this will be required.Using your height to size up your ball: When you stand next to an exercise ball, it should be even or slightly above your knee level. The best way to size up your ball is by sitting on it. When you sit on the ball, your knees should be bent at a 90-degree angle and your thighs should be parallel or even with the floor. Find your height and see which ball size you should try first. The following chart shows a slight variation of recommended heights for the different ball sizes you can choose from:
Height Ball Size
Under 4’8″ (142cm) 45cm
4’8″ to 5’3″ (142 to 160cm) 55cm
5’4″ to 5’10” (160 to 178cm) 65cm
5’11” to 6’4″ (178 to 193cm) 75cm
